“This might be the most comical sports photo I've ever seen,” said another.
'Dead. Taxes. A Texas UIL championship game with a player who could have started college ball two years ago,” a third added.
Washington's extensive growth began when he grew six inches in one month as a sixth grader The Athletics.
The growth spurt took such a huge toll on Washington's body and required surgery to prevent his growth plates from collapsing. He then underwent a procedure in which metal rods were placed in his legs to strengthen them.
After recovering from the surgery, Washington returned to the field and began distributing scouting reports.
With one year left in high school, he is currently listed as a three-star recruit with offers from Texas, Oregon and TCU.
The image of Washington became the perfect summary of the game as DeSoto steamrolled Summer Creek 74-14 for their third state title. With the win, DeSoto completed their second undefeated season and improved to a 3-0 record in championship games.
