Bill Belichick's future with the New England Patriots is yet to be decided and could depend on their form between now and the end of the season, it has been claimed.

According to league expectations, Belichick will not return to New England after the season NFL Network's Ian RapoportPatriots owner Robert Kraft has not yet made a final decision on the job status of the franchise's most legendary head coach.

The Patriots have already been eliminated from the playoffs due to a 3-10 record and subpar performance on the field, but it was noted that a string of wins later could be enough to keep Belichick in town and convince Kraft that the team is going in the right direction.

New England plays the Kansas City Chiefs this week before closing out the season against the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

Belichick was quickly considered the favorite to replace former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley, who was fired this week after a disastrous loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 71-year-old coach has also been linked with a move to Washington next year after earlier reports that new Commanders owner Josh Harris was expected to inquire about a trade for Belichick.

Washington is expected to fire head coach Ron Rivera at the end of the season.

The Chargers and Commanders are not expected to be the only potential vacancies for Belichick if he and the Patriots part ways, as the Raiders and Carolina Panthers have also fired all of their head coaches this year.

A recent report also stated that there are expected to be seven to 10 coaching changes this offseason.
