Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has praised teenager Lewis Miley for his historic achievement as Newcastle's youngest Premier League goalscorer.

Miley, a 17-year-old midfielder, led the team to a 3–0 win over ten-man Fulham, coming into the match as a first-half substitute for the injured Joelinton and breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute.

His goal paved the way for Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn to secure the victory by increasing the Magpies' tally.

Howe expressed his joy for Miley after the match: 'I'm very happy for him. Today was his moment.

'Set up by Bruno (Guimaraes) brilliant run and did he have the composure in front of the Gallowgate to score a huge goal in our season? He did that, and I'm very happy for him.'

Despite the initial plan to manage Miley's playing time and provide some rest, circumstances took a turn when Joelinton came off injured in the first half.

Describing the game's challenges, Howe acknowledged: “It was always going to be that way, even at 11 against 10. Today it was never going to be free-flowing, buccaneer, entertaining football because of so many different reasons, the injuries we have, what's going on in the middle happened during the week, the emotion we experienced there.'

Miley's crucial goal came as Newcastle struggled to break Fulham's defensive resolve following Raul Jimenez's 22nd-minute dismissal.

Almiron doubled the lead within seven minutes and Burn sealed the victory late in the match.

Despite injuries, including the untimely departure of Fabian Schar, and the emotional aftermath of Wednesday's Champions League exit, Howe highlighted the team's resilience and determination in securing their seventh consecutive league victory at St James' Park.
