Child fighting for life after being struck by lightning during violent south-east Queensland storm

A child who was struck by lightning during a fierce storm that swept through south-east Queensland is now fighting for his life in hospital.

The child was struck during the storm at about 2.30pm at a private property on Clarkes Rd in Beerwah, on the Sunshine Coast, the Courier-Mail reported.

Paramedics arrived on scene and took the child to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The incident comes after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning on Saturday afternoon about a series of dangerous thunderstorms expected to affect the Ipswich, Logan, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and Gympie council areas.
