Jamie Carragher praised VAR for operating at its 'best' after a video check at the City Ground saw Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma sent off for a dangerous tackle against Nottingham Forest.
Bissouma was shown a straight red card by referee Jarred Gillet after sliding on Ryan Yates and catching the Forest captain after playing a pass.
The combative Tottenham player recklessly went in and caught Yates high on the leg, leaving VAR with a simple check to rule that Bissouma should be given his early marching orders.
Carragher – like many – was critical of VAR this season, but praised its intervention to reduce Ange Postecoglou's team to ten men on Friday evening.
Commenting on the match for Sky Sports, Carragher said: “He will do well to get away with that. He is leaving.

Bissouma's red card was his second and Tottenham's fourth of the Premier League season
“I mean, the only thing you think I mean, listen, that's a clear red card. I mean, the main thing you're looking at is the actual power. And there is no doubt that the power is there for me.
'Listen, that's what we have VAR for, VAR works at its best, it will be difficult to watch sometimes. When you're a referee, it happens so quickly and you try to see it in real time.

'Excessive violence is high. That's what you don't want to see. He shakes his head, but he knows he knows,” he added.
Bissouma's red card is Spurs' fourth showing this season, with the 27-year-old previously sent off against Luton for diving, earning him a second yellow card in the match.
Defenders Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are the other culprits to be sent off during Tottenham's ongoing Premier League campaign.
Further misery followed Bissouma's sending-off when Udogie was shown a yellow card in the immediate aftermath, meaning he will miss Tottenham's upcoming match against Everton.
