An elderly married couple accused of keying luxury vehicles in broad daylight have tried to make a quick escape from unwanted media attention as they left the courtroom.

Raymond Edwards, 70, and his wife Barbara Edwards both appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday charged with malicious damage.

The pair were charged after they were allegedly caught keying luxury cars at the Brookside Shopping Center in Mitchelton, north Brisbane, last month.

Mr Edwards was reportedly caught damaging a white BMW and a Tesla in the car park with his keys.

They are reportedly seen in the damaged Tesla on-board camera footage, first obtained by Seven News, weaving through the parked cars before keying the vehicles.

Ms Edwards, wearing a Gucci T-shirt, is also said to be seen in the footage keying the cars.

When the pair arrived at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, they were flanked by family and friends in an attempt to avoid being filmed or photographed.

A Seven News reporter had the microphone knocked out of her hand by a supporter of the couple.

A similar commotion occurred when the group left the court after a brief mention on Monday, with supporters blocking TV cameras and photographers from speaking to the couple.

The pair have yet to enter a formal plea, but their lawyer, Bruce Peters, told the court they were “anxious to deal with it because of the media attention” and indicated they would plead guilty.

Prosecutors are still trying to confirm the cost of the damage through the owners' insurance.

The case was adjourned to January 16 for further hearing.
