Megyn Kelly reveals what Chris Christie REALLY told her during their heated off-air debate confrontation – and why it took 17 minutes to get to candidate that is ‘polling at 2%’

  • Debate moderator Megyn Kelly revealed what former New Jersey Chris Christie said to her when he angrily approached her during a commercial break
  • Kelly said on Thursday that Christie was 'p***ed', he didn't get enough questions, but also pointed out that he 'voted for 2 percent'
  • During their back-and-forth, Kelly assured the former New Jersey governor that he would get more time in the second half of the debate, which he did.

Megyn Kelly revealed Thursday what former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said to her during a heated off-air confrontation during Wednesday night's Republican primary debate.

An audience member captured video of Christie walking toward Kelly and the two other debate moderators after his clash with rival Vivek Ramaswamy over comments the entrepreneur made on stage about the former U.N. ambassador. Nikki Haley, another 2024 GOP hopeful.

Kelly said Christie was 'p***ed'.

β€œLast night there was a video all over the internet that went viral where someone on the balcony filmed Chris Christie coming over during a break at the end of the first hour and kind of sitting in my grill,” she said.

Christie, she said, was “angry that he didn't get enough questions,” to which Kelly told her SiriusXM audience, “He's polling at 2 percent!”

β€œHaven't we in any debate ever, and I've done six now, asked as many questions of the guy at 3 percent as we do of the guy in the lead, at least among the candidates on stage,” Kelly said? . β€œI'm sorry, Governor Christie. That's how it is.'

Christie's national polling average, according to Real Clear Politicsamounts to 2.5 percent.

During their back-and-forth, Kelly assured the former New Jersey governor that he would be given more time in the second half of the debate.

“I said, 'We're coming to you. You'll be happy in the second hour,' which I delivered on,” Kelly said.

She also said Christie was “right” to be excluded.

β€œAnd the reason that happened is because we made them fight in the first 40 minutes of the debate and so that comes at a cost,” she explained. “It's all at the expense of something else that's coming.”

Citing CNN's numbers, Kelly said the candidates were given almost equal time to talk.

Ramaswamy spoke for 22 minutes, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got 21, Haley 17 and Christie β€” who is polling alongside Ramaswamy nationally β€” got 16 minutes, 52 seconds, Kelly said.

β€œSo he was a half minute behind Haley, who is number one there,” Kelly said of the four Republican candidates participating in the debate.

Former President Donald Trump has refused to take the stage and is the distant frontrunner in the race.

β€œSo I honestly don't want to hear it, we treated him well,” Kelly continued. 'He got a lot of airtime. He was angry about that.'

“I like him, but to break some news about what people are speculating about… they never like it when they don't get to speak,” the former Fox News host added.

Christie was transparent about his annoyance at being asked a question last.

He opened his debate performance with the words: 'We are seventeen minutes into this debate.'

He then attacked his three rivals for “acting as if this race was between the four of us” and refusing to take on Trump.
