Aussie favourite ute is urgently recalled with thousands of customers put on notice

Two major car brands have issued emergency recalls after reports that several manufacturing issues could lead to injury or death.

Mazda Australia is recalling 8936 affected units of its BT-50 after the discovery of a fuel leak that could lead to a fire.

“As a result of a manufacturing problem, the fuel hose may rub against the engine oil level bracket and become damaged,” the company said in its recall notice.

'If this happens, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source, which could result in a vehicle fire.'

Anyone who purchased the current TF generation versions of the Mazda BT-50 with the larger 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, produced between 2021 and 2023, is urged to contact Mazda to have the fuel hose replaced free of charge.

Meanwhile, Great Wall Motor Company Limited also issued its own recall for its GWM ORA 2023 model on Monday.

This concerns 1,659 copies, including all variants of this car model, the company explains.

“If the operator removes the charging cable without canceling charging, an electrical arc may occur between the charging plug and the vehicle due to a programming issue,” the company said in its recall notice.

'If an electric arc comes into contact with the operator or bystanders, it increases the risk of serious injury or death.'

Affected customers will be contacted in writing by GWM asking them to make an appointment at their preferred GWM dealer, who will update the vehicle software free of charge.
