True Detective: Night Country is focused on the best parts of season 1
Real detective is almost back, and it looks like this time the show is going all-in on the supernatural undercurrents of season 1. A new trailer for True Detective: Nightland was released Monday and showcases the show's central case, hinting at the creepy forces that could be at work behind all the blood and murder. The show returns to HBO on January 14.
The new season of the show follows Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and her longtime partner Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) as they investigate how and why eight men disappeared without a trace in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. As usual with Real detectivethe two will have to deal with some darkness in their own past, and whatever darkness is at play in the icy wilderness of Alaska.
Unlike previous seasons, which were written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto, this season will be helmed by horror director Issa López, who has said she wants to build on some of the supernatural undercurrents that were important in the show's first season , but didn't. Not much has appeared since then.
In addition to Foster and Reis, the show also stars Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter films), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor who), and John Hawkes (Winter's bone).
