A makeup artist has revealed a seemingly innocent beauty flaw that can actually ruin the look of your foundation.

The video was shared by Melanie, an American content creator who goes by the username @melbellles and often shares her expertise, tips, tricks and other style content on her social media platforms.

In the clipwhich was part of her 'quick makeup tips' series, Melanie explained exactly what can make your foundation look 'super patchy', and how a simple, extra step can help.

According to Melanie, the mistake occurs when people use a damp makeup sponge to apply their foundation and fail to squeeze out enough liquid before using it to apply their product.

“If you want to achieve a flawless foundation application, it's very important not to oversaturate your beauty sponge,” Melanie explained at the beginning of the video.

“Never use a dry beauty sponge, please,” Melanie warned in a new one TikTok video posted this week.

“Not only can this make your foundation super patchy, but it will also eat up a ton of your product.”

She said if water wasn't 'accessible' to wet the blender, you could use a setting spray instead.

Last summer, however, some were disgusted to learn what a beauty sponge could look like if it wasn't cleaned often.
