Video has surfaced of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers doing reps in practice as he inches closer to a remarkable return after a torn Achilles tendon.

Jets social media showed the soon-to-be 40-year-old quarterback simulating handoffs and making slight dropbacks before throwing a pass.

Rodgers, who tore his Achilles tendon less than three months ago in his highly anticipated Jets debut, was cleared to return to practice earlier Wednesday afternoon.

And after doing so against all odds, he shared a video of himself back in action on Instagram with the caption: “It’s been a long 77 days. It’s nice to be on the field with the boys again.’

According to ESPN reporter Rich CiminiRodgers had limited participation during a 30-minute open training session.

That included throwing with a staffer, warm-ups, light dropbacks and taking snaps under center.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to the media on Wednesday and confirmed that the team opened Rodgers’ 21-day practice window for a return.

“This is not so much preparation to play, but more of progress in his rehabilitation,” Saleh said, confirming doctors are happy Rodgers is speeding up his recovery.

‘He has already sacrificed so much for the organization. It’s a testament to who he is as a person.

“Instead of throwing to a strength and conditioning coach, he can throw to his teammates.

‘We have the impression that he will be back in 24 years, whatever happens.

‘What Aaron will do in practice, with regard to certain exercises, does not entail any additional risk. There are certain things he has been given permission to do that we will allow him to do.”

Rodgers’ return could come at a very momentous time for the team, which currently has only the faintest hope of making the playoffs.

With a record of 4-7, they are second to last in the AFC playoffs, but still they are not quite out of the woods yet.

That could impact a Rodgers return — something the quarterback admitted during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

‘It’s about health first and then I can play,’ ‘are we alive for the play-offs?” second?’ Rodgers said.

“I’m getting better every week,” he said. “Being able to not travel to Buffalo probably helped me the most, just because I was able to recuperate for those 10 days straight without having to travel. And as nice as it is to see the boys, it also brings me back to rehab a little bit.”

Rodgers also told McAfee in recent weeks: “I think right after the injury there is a thought [that] this is it. I’m ready.

“I can’t go through this rehab, I’m too old for this shit. And I searched and prayed a lot that night and when I woke up in the morning I had the feeling of ”no, I’ll be back”.

“I’m going to do this again, I’m going to climb the mountain again and I’m grateful to all the people who reached out, the people who prayed for me, supported me, sent me nice messages, checked on me. It was really special.’

They’ll be back in action this weekend at MetLife, facing the Atlanta Falcons. Anything other than a victory bay will doom them before Rodgers even has a chance.
