Utah State Aggies quarterback Levi Williams is about to forgo his final year of NCAA eligibility to join the United States Navy SEALs.

“I love football and it’s so great,” Williams said during an appearance on Hans & Scotty from KSL Sports Zone. “But I knew it would end eventually.

“I just want to be in a place where I can protect this great country, where we can play football with the freedom to do so. I think this is the best country in the world. So I would like to keep it that way and protect it for as long as possible.’

Williams hopes to be selected to be part of the SEAL selection process in February and graduate from Utah State University in the summer of 2024.

“What I like about their ethos and their motto is that no one is better than the other. You need them all to complete a mission,” Williams said

“I think that’s super critical… Just to be a part of that brotherhood would be a great honor.”

He also plans to use his service as a way to honor several members of his family, including his mother, grandparents and his fiancée’s father.

“The timeline with training and everything, it just works perfectly coming in this year. My mother was in the army. My grandparents were Navy and Army. So it kind of runs in the family,” Williams said.

“This is where God calls me,” Williams said as he told his wife about the decision to join the military.

‘Of course we cannot prepare for everything. There will be some unexpected twists along the way. As long as you trust God and me, I think we’ll be fine.”

Williams’ announcement coincidentally comes at the height of his career, as he was recently named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance against New Mexico that made Utah State bowl eligible this season.

During the Aggies’ 44-41 victory, Williams threw for 16-27, 198 yards and two touchdowns, while securing 153 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.
