AMD’s 96-core behemoth just sent Intel’s best processor into oblivion to claim 19 world speed records — and it’s only just getting started
AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX demonstrates exactly why it’s so highly anticipated by claiming a slew of new records in several benchmarking categories.
The EPYC processor currently holds the record for tests in several categories, including Cinebench R23 multi-core, Geekbench 3 multi-core and HWBOT x265 Benchmark – 4k, according to HWBot, a site dedicated to overclocking performance, where users can upload their benchmark results with custom hardware to compete with each other to achieve record results in a plethora of categories.
AMD’s powerful chip, one of the fastest processors ever made, came onto the market in October 2023. It comes with 96 cores, 192 threads, 96 MB L2 cache and 384 MB L3 cache, and can reach a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz with a boost up to 5.1 GHz. Have early tests labeled it ‘unstoppable’and it will undoubtedly become an important part of the best workstations now and in the coming months.
AMD’s 96-core monster is off to a flying start
The 19 world records the processor has amassed on HWBot are matched by some amazing achievements the processor has achieved since it has been in circulation since early 2023.
Leaks in March 2023 teased some key details around the newly launched CPU, namely that it features 3D V cache, which allows more cache memory to be allocated to the CPU core.
A few months later, test results emerged on Geekbench – the popular benchmarking platform for chips and components – with the system built into an HP Z6 G5 workstation. Needless to say, it claimed one of them first world records with this test result. The Zen-4 CPU was subsequently discovered in the Sisoftware Sandra test database, after being tested on a Dell Precision 8785 tower. This confirmed the previous leak.
Amid these test results, AMD’s speed demon also wrestled away a widely coveted world that Intel previously held and had been traded between the two companies for some time. It crushed Intel’s 56-core Intel Xeon W903495X claim the world record in the Cinebench R23 testa commonly used benchmark in the creative industry.
