According to multiple reports, NHL forward Corey Perry is being fired by the Chicago Blackhawks with the aim of terminating his contract.

In a statement from the teamthe Blackhawks stated that an internal investigation found that Perry “engaged in conduct that is unacceptable and violates both the terms of his standard player contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies designed to promote professional and safe work environments.”

This comes just days after the 38-year-old attacker quit the team for ‘personal reasons’.

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said it was a “team decision” to hold off on Perry but provided no other information.

Perry hasn’t played any league minutes this season since a game against the Buffalo Sabers on Nov. 19.

Perry made the move to Chicago this offseason via a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning before agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract in free agency.

He was kept around as a mentor of sorts for No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard, who the Blackhawks hope will become the face of the franchise.

In sixteen games, Perry scored four goals and five assists, good for nine points.

Before he was fired, Perry’s agent made a statement Hockey night in Canadasaid he had resigned from the Blackhawks to attend to personal matters and requested privacy for his client.

“We’ll take it like any other roster move, whether it’s an injury or a trade or whatever,” coach Luke Richardson said.

“It’s the coach’s job to make adjustments on the fly.”

“He’s a big part of what we do here, so it’s a shame,” teammate Nick Foligno added.

“That’s all we know, so I’m not going to comment further, but as far as this room goes, it’s a big part of it. He is much loved and we will miss him.”
