Schoolies group narrowly escape with their lives on K’gari after tree branch spears through the front windscreen of their car

A group of teenagers on a school trip barely escaped with their lives after a tree branch speared through the windshield of their car.
The terrifying moment happened last Wednesday afternoon near Lake McKenzie on K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) off the coast of Central Queensland.
The group of four girls were on their way back to their resort in Eurong, a 40-minute drive east of Lake McKenzie, when the huge branch crashed into the vehicle’s windshield and into the headrest of the front passenger seat.
Fortunately, the front seat passenger was able to get out of the way when the tree branch crashed into the vehicle and punctured the headrest of the front passenger seat.

Fortunately, the girl sitting in the seat at the time managed to get out of the way before the branch plowed through into the back seat.
Fortunately, no one was in the back seat at the time of the crash.
The girls stayed at Rainbow Beach during the trip and wanted to explore K’gari before they got into trouble.
Rescuers from youth group Red Frogs were alerted to the crash and rushed to the scene to help the schoolboys after their car was hit.
Red Frogs CEO Andrew Gourley told Ny Breaking Australia the branch had fallen onto the dirt road during a storm the night before.
He said there were two Red Frogs on the island for school celebrations and they happened to be in the area doing a patrol at the time and rushed to help the girls who had run straight into the branch.
“Our teams were there…working [a] campsite…and the Red Frogs truck came by…helped the girls,” Mr. Gourley said.
‘[Then] The rangers came and they had the tractor pull the branch out.”

Mr Gourley said the Red Frogs crew drove the car back to Eurong despite the damage the vehicle had sustained.
The girls were later taken back to a resort in Eurong where paramedics assessed them before spending the night with members of the youth group.
A member of the girl’s family took the teens back to Rainbow Beach the next day.
Schoolies kicked off last week as thousands of school leavers marked the end of Year 12 with parties and festivals in full swing on the Gold Coast.
Schoolies for 2023 end on December 3.
