Cody Simpson makes a huge announcement about his future in swimming as he trains to make the Aussie team for the Paris Olympics

Cody Simpson has revealed he will retire from swimming after the Paris Olympics.

The pop star and athlete, 26, recently shared a photo on Instagram of the medals he won at the Australian Short Course Championships and captioned it with some telling words.

‘My second and last ever Aussie short track champion. It was real,” he wrote.

With the Paris Olympics just around the corner, the partner of Australian superfish Emma McKeon has once again set tongues wagging with a new social media post.

Simpson posted a video of himself training for the butterfly with a message to his fans saying his career in the pool is coming to an end.

‘I’ve been doing this every day for over three years now. There are only 8 months left in my swimming journey, which I think needs more content and updates on the path,” he posted.

‘The training sessions are going well. I give what I have to give every day. Learning a lot about myself. Wonderful to feel so healthy.’

Simpson recently released a new album and posted that he missed seeing live music and seeing his fans

The cryptic nature of the post led many of his followers to wonder if this meant the Olympics – held eight months from now in July – will be Simpson’s final in the pool.

“Wait, are you going to stop swimming after that?” one fan asked.

“You deserve to represent Australia in Paris and get a gold medal. I think the 100m is open,” posted a fan from across Brazil.

“I admire your attitude, strength and determination,” another added.

Although Simpson has repeatedly put his music career on hold to focus on the pool, he recently released a message suggesting he’s eager to get back into the studio and hit the road.

“The fact that I swim professionally means my ability to travel and play live is inhibited, but I hope this will work out,” he posted along with the announcement that his self-titled studio album had been released.

‘I have quite a few live sessions to share with you digitally. This album is for everyone who has remembered me and my musical journey.
