Frequent flyer shares her ultimate plane travel tips after taking an incredible 22 flights in two months
Television star Shelly Horton has been taking a lot of planes lately.
The Talking Married presenter recently made a whopping 22 interstate flights in eight weeks as part of her work in the media.
And the 50-year-old has shared her top tips for frequent flying in a new column Nine honey.
Shelly recommends that travelers skip checking bags for short trips, because simply having a carry-on makes it easy to get on and off flights and zip through airports.
She also believes it’s well worth “a few extra bucks” to pay for your seating choice and avoid the middle seat.

The TV personality also skips the food on the plane and instead carries her own pepperoni sticks, nuts, vegetable chips and blocks of chocolate to eat on board.
When it comes to dressing for a flight, “long pants or skirts are my favorite,” she explains.
‘They save you the annoying feeling of skin against airplane seats. Comfort is key, especially when you’re in the air more than on the ground,” Shelly writes.
Shelly additionally suggests doing work on the plane, instead of taking a nap, and paying for airport lounge access to charge devices and rest.
Last but not least, she encourages collecting frequent flyer miles, even if the trip is paid for by your employer.

Another frequent flyer, Catriona Rowntree, also recently shared her travel tips.
Catriona certainly knows how to pack a suitcase, having traveled all over the world as host of the travel show Getaway.
“A week before I leave, I usually get everything ready and start adding or subtracting what I think I’ll need,” she says Nine now.
‘I always do my homework. I grab my phone and check the weather. Look on Instagram, see what the locals are wearing’.
She then adds everything to a checklist using her ‘addition and subtraction’ method, and the night before her departure, everything checked off goes into the bag.
The TV personality also skips the food on the plane and instead carries her own pepperoni sticks, nuts, vegetable chips and blocks of chocolate to eat on board.
Catriona also uses packing cubes in different sizes for lingerie and other small items, takes clothes that don’t need ironing, sticks to three colors so she can ‘mix and match’ her outfits – and warns not to take too many shoes to take.
“Never take anything that you would be upset if you lost,” Catriona emphasizes, adding that you should take photos of your luggage in case your bag gets lost.
A surprising piece of advice that goes against modern travel tips: the TV presenter prefers to fold her clothes rather than roll them up.
When it comes to the suitcase itself, Catriona prefers a hard case with wheels, which doesn’t look too fancy to be stolen, or too ‘unreliable’ to be searched.
