Speaking to the publication, Elle admitted: ‘I never wanted to be a model’ and confessed that she ‘hated’ her first experience walking a catwalk.
She recalls: ‘The first time I walked the catwalk I was seven years old, and I did it with my aunt, who was a model. I hated it.
‘I never wanted to be a model, I wanted to study law and have a stable job where I had enough income to grow.’
The superstar revealed how as a child she believed her height, athletic physique and broad shoulders meant she wouldn’t be a successful model.
She explains: ‘When I started working as a model, I was like an Amazon. I had broad shoulders from swimming and narrow hips, was 1.80 cm tall and had a chest size of 90. That was not normal. I was a lot bigger and more athletic than most girls.”
Elle was nicknamed ‘The Body’ by Time Magazine in 1986. Speaking of which, she confessed, “I was surprised. But at the time I didn’t think much of it, I just thought, “That’s a bit of a weird name.”
“A lot of people still say to me, ‘Don’t you find it insulting to be called that?’ But after 45 years of working, I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to expand my business with that name as a kind of foundation to build on.”
Elle used her platform to launch wellness brand WelleCo.
