HSBC is DOWN: Banking app crashes for thousands of frustrated users across the UK

It’s one of the most popular banking apps around the world, but the HSBC app appears to have stopped working this morning.
According to Down Detector, the problems began at around 08:49 GMT, and are affecting users across Britain.
MailOnline tried to access the application, and received an error message that read: “Service unavailable”. This service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.’
HSBC has now acknowledged the outage and says it is “urgently investigating”.
“We understand that some customers are having trouble accessing banking services as usual at this time. We are investigating this matter as a matter of urgency and will share an update as soon as possible,” X (formerly Twitter) posted.

To date, more than 4,077 issues have been registered with Down Detector. Of those who reported problems, 64 percent said they were having problems with mobile banking, while 21 percent said they were struggling with online banking.
HSBC has now acknowledged the outage and says it is “urgently investigating”. “We understand that some customers are having trouble accessing banking services as usual at this time. HSBC has around 14.8 million customers across the UK, although it remains unclear how many customers use its mobile banking app.

Several users pointed to the fact that the outage occurred on payday, with one saying he had “bills that needed paying.”
Another added: “Help!” HSBC app is down. On payday too. I have bills to pay!!!’
One vented: “Payday for many, plus Black Friday, and HSBC decide there will be an outage to their mobile app and online banking.” I did well!’
