Many businesses are afraid they can’t keep control of their data
With an increasing number of cloud solutions and growing hybrid setups, almost two-thirds (63%) of IT decision makers are now concerned that siled data could pose regulatory issues when it comes to data compliance.
Cloudera’s survey of 850 ITDMs in EMEA highlights the additional complexity added when introducing multiple point solutions intended to help manage data.
According to the survey, as many as four in five (79%) ITDMs say compliance is their top concern when it comes to managing data.
Cloud, hybrid and more, making data management more difficult
The research highlights the growing amount of data that companies handle, which for many has increased significantly since the rise of generative AI.
Chris Royles, EMEA Field CTO of Cloudera, said: “Emerging innovations such as AI will further increase complexity, and with new regulations on the horizon, compliance will only become more difficult.”
The company is also coining a new term: data integration tax. It says that point solutions are not all they are cracked up to be (i.e. a quick way to solve specific data processes). Instead, they introduce additional costs related to staff onboarding, integration and training.
In fact, four in five (78%) believe the introduction of dedicated data analytics and management solutions has increased costs.
Royles added: “Each solution requires its own specialist skills, which take time and money to learn.”
Looking ahead, Cloudera’s solution for businesses is clear: organizations must take the time to modernize their data architectures and end their reliance on point solutions. The benefits will be twofold, as these measures will not only help reduce costs in the short and medium term, but they also promise to reduce costs in the longer term as the amount of data increases.
