Medina played for the Red Elephants last year as a pitcher and catcher.

“On behalf of the family, we are releasing the name of the student who was injured at Gainesville High School on Monday, November 20 at 1:20 p.m.,” said a statement shared on social media. “Medina remains in a coma at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.”

It concluded: ‘Jeremy and his family firmly believe in Jesus Christ and his redeeming love, and ask for prayers during this extremely difficult time.’

Community members used the hashtags “#pray4jeremy” and “#OneGainesville,” as those who knew him remembered the teen fondly.

Adam Miller, Jeremy’s former coach, called Medina a “great kid, great teammate and great ball player” in his own Facebook post.

“His smile and love for the game is something I will never forget. He and his family have been a blessing to me,” Miller wrote, encouraging others to pray for him.

A woman who claimed to have spoken to Medina’s father reported that he came out of the operating room due to “severe brain/skull injuries.”

She added, “As I just said to his father, Whose report will you believe that we choose the Lord’s report!”

The baseball team at nearby Chestatee High School highlighted Medina’s hospitalization in a post Wednesday.

“Jeremy is full of fight and grit on the baseball field and we pray he continues to fight with the same grit,” the post read. “We continue to offer our prayers and positive thoughts to those involved in the accident.”

Other high school teams across Georgia sent their regards, including the Valdosta Wildcats and the East Forsyth Broncos.

The 17-year-old’s love for the game was evident on social media, where he regularly posted photos of himself in his baseball uniform.

Medina’s brother David, a fellow baseball player, posted a video of the duo roughing it as kids on his Instagram Story.

The video was captioned: “Please wake up for me.”

School officials have not released any other details about the teen’s condition. Gainesville High School could not immediately be reached for comment.
