Colin From Accounts could be Paramount Plus’ very own Ted Lasso, and it’s easy to see why
Colin from Accountsan Australian rom-com series that has become a huge hit pretty much everywhere is gearing up to take the US by storm.
Announced as a feel-good, Ted Lasso-style show, made by the Aussie Colin from Accounts stars The invisible man‘Harriet Dyer and A moody ChristmasPatrick Brammall, who are also the show’s co-creators and are married in real life. Set in Sydney, Dyer and Brammall play Ashley and Gordon, strangers brought together by a car accident and a sweet dog – who is injured in the accident – that the duo wants to call Colin.
Colin from Accounts has already become a TV phenomenon on Australian network Binge, but has since gained a significant following in the UK (on terrestrial channel BBC Two) and in the Nordic countries. Per one Collider According to the September report, Paramount Plus has acquired the exclusive rights to bring the series to the US and given the success the series is enjoying elsewhere, Paramount will no doubt be hoping that the series will be just as popular in the United States.
The signs certainly point in that direction. It currently stands with a perfect 100% critical score Rotten tomatoes, with a 93% audience rating not far behind. Clearly there are parallels between them Colin from Accounts and Apple TV Plus’ Ted Lasso – the football comedy series that started life as a relative outsider but ended up winning multiple awards and landing a spot on our list of the best Apple TV Plus shows. Paramount will cross its fingers then Colin from Accounts will become your new favorite program on its own streaming platform.
What the critics say about Colin From Accounts
It’s really hard to find someone to say a bad word about Colin from Accounts. The only ‘negative’ review I found came from Pajiba’s Dustin Rowleswho claimed “the worst of it Colin from Accounts is the starting point”. Crucially, however, Rowles goes on to say that “the best thing about Colin from Accounts is everything else.”
So outside the generic starting point, Colin from Accounts is a certifiable hit. It’s a rom-com that never feels foggy, wrote NPR’s John Powerswho added that it is “packed with life and honesty, but also extremely funny.”
In the meantime, Collider’s Erick Massoto says it is “the perfect mix of comedy and drama”. Variety’s Mike McCaill stating “The leads bring an unusually light touch to even the more outré material, and Magic a strangely winning, confused chemistry: that of two people who don’t understand how they got here, let alone the person opposite stands for them.”
Chemistry may be the most overused word in the reviews, but there’s a good reason for that, as it seems everyone has fallen in love with the couple at the center of the show, aka Ashley van Dyer and Gordon van Brammall. Considering they tied the knot just five days after their engagement (in real life, remember) they’re clearly crazy about each other – and it clearly shows on screen, with the dynamic taking on a whole new level of awwww-inducing adds affection. to the early relationship of their characters.
If that sounds nauseatingly saccharine, don’t worry. There’s plenty of snark and crude jokes that some reviewers have described as “filth.” Colin from Accounts don’t let the rom overpower the com. If Kylie Northover of the Sydney Morning Herald it states: “Australian rom-com offerings, especially on television, are a rarity, so to see one done well, and with particular emphasis on the ‘com, is a real treat”.
