3AW host Neil Mitchell slams Kyle Sandilands over his $200million radio move to Melbourne: ‘I wouldn’t listen to him in a fit’
Neil Mitchell has turned down Kyle Sandilands’ expansion into the Melbourne market in a huge $200 million deal.
The veteran radio star, 72, said on his popular 3AW program Mornings with Neil Mitchell on Thursday that he has no intention of ever listening to The Kyle and Jackie O’s show.
“He loves it, he understands it, he exploits it, he knows his audience and he’s an effective broadcaster, but I wouldn’t just listen to him,” Mitchell said.
“He’s not as successful as he claims, but he’s successful, and you’ll know for sure he’s in town.”
Mitchell said he doesn’t believe Sandilands will be able to beat rival Ross Stevenson, a big star of Melbourne radio.

‘Radio is about competition. “I think Ross Stevenson will pull it all off,” he said.
“He’s a quiet genius in his own way and I think the industry underestimates him, but the public doesn’t.”
“Kyle will try to steal the audience everywhere, including Ross. Ultimately, I know Ross Stevenson will deal with him.’
Mitchell ended by saying that Kyle should never be “underestimated,” adding that he is a “very smart” man.

Kyle and Jackie O signed the record-breaking ten-year deal worth $200 million on Wednesday morning, keeping them on the air until 2034.
This means the pair will dominate markets beyond their Sydney-based audience and expand into Melbourne for the first time.
An ARN spokesperson confirmed to Ny Breaking Australia that the deal means Kyle and Jackie’s KIIS FM work friends Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips will be out of a job and their Melbourne breakfast show will end in December.
In a statement celebrating the historic contract extension, Sandilands said: “Fans of the show will be pleased to hear that this ten-year deal is the longest radio deal in Australian history.”

“Love us or loathe us, Jackie and I will continue with our politically incorrect nonsense for a long time.”
He added: “We would like to thank the listeners. Staff. All clients. Even senior management, I’ll give a nod to that. They’ve actually done something brilliant.’
The landmark $200 million deal means Sandilands and Henderson will each earn $10 million a year.
This will double their current salary of approximately $5 million per year.
According to the Financial Review, Kyle and Jackie’s contracts include “a base salary, a percentage share of sales above what is now earned – known as ‘incremental growth,’ and sign-on bonuses consisting primarily of stock in ARN.”
