Travis Kelce has laughed off his embarrassment after several old tweets from 2011 went viral on social media.

The Chiefs star, whose romance with Taylor Swift has seen his profile rise to new levels in recent months, found himself in the news for new reasons last week when fans dug up his old tweets.

In his early 20s, Kelce often tweeted about his favorite snacks, how much he loved taking naps and, best of all, feeding a “squirrel” some bread.

And it provided his older brother Jason with some great material for the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, as the pair reflected on another wild week.

“Perhaps the biggest news of the past week is Travis Kelce’s tweets circa 2009-2011. It’s been all over the news,” Jason said. “When you read them back, what does Travis Kelce think?”

The man himself replied: ‘I just use Twitter as a kind of diary. There’s no… I’m just saying nonsense here. ‘I just gave a squirrel a piece of bread’ and ‘squirrel’ spelled like a bastard**’.

Jason responded by laughing, “First of all, that’s the new spelling for squirrel. I don’t know why they spelled it differently.

“I think the only reason this one is getting crushed is because of the spelling. But I’d be pretty… if I’m throwing bread and a squirrel eats it, I’d be pretty excited.”

Travis added, “I made a friend, man. I had made a friend. ‘Nap time’ (another old tweet) was a classic. All I need is a good 15.

“I mean, that’s why I don’t tweet anymore. It’s just nonsense.’

The full tweet itself from the Chiefs star read: ‘I just gave a squirrel a piece of bread and he smashed everything!!!! I didn’t know they ate bread like that!! Haha #crazy.”

Travis continued, “No one followed me then. But I will say that I have been trying to delete those old tweets since I’ve been in the league. But sure enough, it got to surface level.

‘Everyone is fucking in 2011. What a damn year that was. What was I even doing in some of these tweets?”

At the time, Travis would have been in college in Cincinnati, where both he and Jason played football before heading to the NFL.

But while they’re embarrassing, Kelce’s tweets are also endearing. He often talked about how funny he finds his brother Jason, and also about the food he would “just smash,” like that squirrel with a piece of bread.

On December 11, 2009, Travis wrote: ‘haha man, my brother has to be one of the funniest guys on the planet, he’s grade “A” comedy any time of the day.’

Another said in 2010: ‘I HOPE!!!!!! I love coming here for breakfast! Ummm, I think I’ll have the T-bone steak n eggs please! Haha with some white toast!’
