Australian TV fans mock Harry Connick Jr. ahead of his role as guest co-host of The Project after THAT feud with Kyle Sandilands: ‘I hope no one offends him’

Australian TV fans have seen Harry Connick Jr. ridiculed prior to his stint as co-host on The Project.

A user on the Media Spy forum posted that the 56-year-old singer would be guest-starring on Wednesday night’s show, to which another user replied: “I hope no one offends him,” likely referring to an incident that took place during the Australian variety show Hey Hey It’s Saturday in 2009.

The incident involved a comedy troupe dressed as the Jackson Five in blackface for Hey Hey’s regular Red Faces talent show segment.

The American singer was a guest judge on the program and gave the performance a zero score, saying he would never have appeared on the show if he had known there would be blackface.

Host Daryl Somers apologized to Harry at the end of the live segment, saying, “We may have offended you with that act and I sincerely apologize on behalf of all of us.”

“Because I know it’s an insult to your fellow countrymen to have such a blackface routine on the show, so I apologize to you.”

Harry responded, “I know it’s done in humor, but we’ve spent so much time trying to make black people look like buffoons that when we see something like that, we really take it to heart.

“I feel like I’m at home here and if I knew this was going to be part of the show, I definitely wouldn’t have done it.”

It comes after Kyle Sandilands recently revealed his feud with Harry is still ongoing and runs deep.

The radio host, 52, admitted he’s still not a fan of the American singer on a recent episode of The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Kyle and Jackie interviewed two actors, Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance, who star in the upcoming television show NCIS Sydney.

Kyle admitted that he was looking forward to the show because he is a fan of the NCIS franchise, with one exception.

“I couldn’t stand the New Orleans [series] because I like Harry Connick Jr. hate. But that’s a whole different thing,” the shock jock said, implying he didn’t like the show because it’s set in the singer’s hometown.

Later, Kyle clarified his position on NCIS New Orleans: “New Orleans was fine. It was actually because of the Harry Connick Jr. thing…he was never involved in it, but because he was from New Orleans.”

Kyle insisted that the singers should choose songs that viewers will love. Harry encouraged them to challenge themselves and take risks.

Kyle recently lifted the lid on his ‘feud’ with the American crooner while speaking to Ny Breaking Australia.

He emphasized that the rivalry between the two was genuine.

‘It’s not nonsense. There’s really no drama. It’s like, you know when someone just doesn’t like you, can you tell?’ he explained.

“Maybe it’s because he’s not running around praising me, which I don’t expect him to do, like it’s ironic, but he’s on one side and I’m on the other.”

Kyle insisted he doesn’t “hate” the singer, but suggested they aren’t close because they “can’t really spend much time together.”
