Coleen Rooney admits she failed to realise husband Wayne was ‘really struggling’ after her miscarriage: ‘The men get forgotten about a lot’

Coleen Rooney has admitted she didn’t realize her husband Wayne was ‘really struggling’ after she suffered a miscarriage.

The 37-year-old WAG admitted she feels men can be ‘forgotten’ during the loss of a child and only noticed his pain when he told her it had been ‘hard for him too’.

Coleen and Wayne share four sons: Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and Cass, five.

The first of Coleen’s two miscarriages occurred just months after she and Wayne married in a 14th-century abbey in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera.

Coleen – who also spoke about her miscarriages in her new book My Account – said Wayne had always wanted a child and struggled after they lost the baby.

Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, she said: ‘Wayne really struggled with it. That’s where I feel like I have to say, “It’s not just about the women, we have to take care of the men too.” I feel like they are forgotten.

‘He said at one point, “I know it’s hard for you, but it’s hard for me too.” It wasn’t until he said that to me that I realized, “You’re right, it is.” He wanted the baby as much, if not more, than I did.”

Coleen admitted she was much more ‘nervous’ when she became pregnant again with her eldest son Kai after her miscarriage.

She continued, “I was much more nervous then [in the first pregnancy] You know the joy of being pregnant outweighed the fears, but I wasn’t really thinking about the health side of it.

“You know, obviously I did everything by the book and because, you know, I was healthy, I obviously didn’t focus so much on the baby’s health. The second time it was constantly on my mind.

‘And I had more regular check-ups and more scans than I ever should have. The record number of scans I think, and it shouldn’t be like that, you know, it just kept me sane and happy.’

Coleen later suffered a second devastating miscarriage after the birth of her two eldest sons Kai and Klay.

She wrote about her second miscarriage in her book My Account: ‘It’s terrible when something like this happens; of course it is. However, my feelings about it were slightly different this time.

‘I knew I had two healthy boys and that I would most likely have another when the time was right. I wasn’t that nervous about the future.’

During the interview, Coleen did the same revealed that her father Tony was in the room for the birth of all four of her children.

She revealed that her parents Tony and Colette were both in the room with her and Wayne when she gave birth to her sons and talked about how important it was to her because they always “involve everyone in the things we do as a family.”

She said: ‘[My dad’s] I’ve been in the room for all four of my babies, it’s something people don’t understand sometimes…he hasn’t gone down, he’s always stayed at the top.

‘I just wanted him to be there when his grandchildren came into the world. Knowing their love for children, it is such a happy moment for everyone. I was lucky the hospital let them come there.”

Coleen also revealed that her eldest son Kai asked to be there when she gave birth to her fourth child Cass and accompanied them to hospital.

She clarified that Kai wasn’t in the room when she gave birth, but said he came in just after Cass was born and cut the umbilical cord.

The doting mother explained: ‘[Kai] was just amazed at the whole process of the pregnancy and he asked, “Can I be there when you have the baby?”

‘He wasn’t in the room when I gave birth because it’s a beautiful moment, but it’s not that beautiful to watch. So he was in the waiting room next door.’

She added, “I had Cass and then [Kai] We were brought into the room and we said, “Do you want to cut the cord?” and he did it without any problems. I have it on video and when I watch it back, it’s just a beautiful moment.”
