Jim Carrey ‘to star in The Grinch sequel’ – 23 years after originally playing the part of the grumpy Christmas character

Jim Carrey will reportedly star in the sequel to The Grinch.

The actor, 61, originally starred in the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas as the titular Grinch character in 2000.

The Ron Howard-directed film follows Jim as the Grinch – a crabby, cunning creature with green fur who despises Christmas and the Whos of Whoville.

Now Giant crazy robot has reported that a Grinch sequel is imminent and that Carrey would return for the role.

They wrote: ‘Jim Carrey returns to Universal Pictures for The Grinch 2, once again playing Dr. Seuss.’

Jim has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

The star has maintained his silence on the rumored project thus far, but has previously shared that he is not a fan of sequels for the most part.

Speaking to CinemaBlend in 2017, the actor said, “I think sequels are largely a function of commerce.

“At least the two I played, they were characters I loved playing, but I found myself almost parroting myself at that moment.

“When there’s ten years between you and the last time you did it, you suddenly think, ‘How did I do that again?’… So you’re imitating your original inspiration.”

The Mask actor specifically revealed that he was plans to retire from acting last April following the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, explaining that he feels he’s “done enough.”

It comes after earlier this year Jim has put his ‘sanctuary’ Los Angeles mansion up for sale for a whopping $28.9 million, which has been his home for almost 30 years.

The 61-year-old Golden Globe winner initially purchased the lavish estate in 1994, but inquired The New York Post in a statement released on Monday that he was ready for “changes” in his life.

He humorously added that he was ready for “Cha cha cha cha… Changes,” referring to a David Bowie hit titled: Changes.

According to the outlet, Carrey had purchased the home, located in LA’s Brentwood neighborhood, for $3.8 million in 1994.

The talented star also spoke with The Wall Street Journal regarding the sale of the sprawling 12,704-square-foot mansion. He said the house had been ‘a place of enchantment and inspiration’.

Reflecting on his years there, he said, “Every night the owls sang lullabies to me and every morning I sipped my cup of coffee with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine.”

Putting his mansion on the market was a positive step for the star who is ready for a change in his life, not long after Jim revealed he had plans to quit acting in April last year.
