Kamala Harris is realistic about the prospects she and President Joe Biden will need to “earn” the nomination and their 2024 reelection campaign.
The vice president flew to South Carolina on Nov. 10 to file for her and Biden to appear at the state’s Democratic primary as the president continues to play down concerns about his dismal poll numbers.
“We will have to earn our re-election, there is no doubt about that.” Harris told CNN after spending about an hour in South Carolina officially filing Biden for the Democratic presidential primary there.
Harris’ visit this month comes as Democrats move to establish South Carolina as the nation’s first primary state — in a major criticism of New Hampshire and Iowa, which have historically been the first and second primary states.

It also comes after a New York Times poll from late October to early November showed former President Donald Trump beating Biden in five of the six states crucial to winning the 2024 election.
The poll also found that 11 percent of potential Harris supporters do not support Biden — especially those under 30.
Biden has dismissed these polls, claiming his bad results are very rare.
“There are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and ten other polls, and we are winning all of them – except the two where we are tied,” Biden said after several statewide elections earlier this year. November. “The thing is, the CNN and New York Times polls are the only ones you’ve heard about. So your money is not wasted.’
He assured that Democrats are winning because “the Biden-Harris agenda has taken hold.”
The Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn (SC) helped boost Biden’s victory in the state during the 2020 presidential primaries. He was particularly instrumental in gaining Biden support from South Carolina’s black community.
He plans to help again during this election cycle.
“People said, ‘The VP is a drag on the ticket,’” Clyburn said after joining Harris in the filing on Nov. 10. “Now they’re saying the exact opposite.”
Harris told CNN when asked how she envisions her role on the campaign trail: “Honestly, I haven’t compared this cycle to what previous vice presidents have done in a re-election.”
“I have a great sense of duty and responsibility to do as much as possible, to be where the people are and not just talk to them, but listen to them and let them know what we have achieved,” said the vice president. added.
