Bruno Fernandes refuted suggestions linking him with a career move to Saudi Arabia after explaining he was ‘happy’ at Manchester United despite the club’s struggling run of form.
The Portuguese was given the captain’s armband at United last summer, after Erik ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the armband and handed it to Fernandes.
However, his time as captain so far has not gone to plan as the club are struggling in both the English top flight and the Champions League, while he has already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, a title they won last season.
United regained some confidence with a narrow 1-0 win over Luton in the final Premier League match before the international break, but players are being linked with exits following the arrival of new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Fernandes has been one of United’s best signings in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford since joining the club three years ago, during which time he has become a leader at the club.

His current contract with United runs until 2026 with the option of a further year, but that has not stopped Saudi Arabia’s mega-rich sides from recruiting the playmaker.
The 29-year-old has since revealed he has no immediate plans to leave Manchester, but did explain that United ‘didn’t start the way we wanted’ this season.
‘I’m concentrating on the national team and United. I am happy where I am,” Fernandes told Sport TV Portugal.
‘We had very good times in the national team, but at Manchester United we didn’t start the way we wanted. I don’t look at rumors. I don’t pay attention to them.
‘Nowadays it is very easy to spread rumors in the press. I prefer to focus on my goals,” he added.

Fernandes has not been exempt from criticism at club level this season as his performances and leadership come under scrutiny amid United’s problems.
Former players have cast doubt on his abilities as captain, with ex-United captain Roy Keane Fernandes furiously lashing out after a poor performance and calling for him to be stripped of the club armband.
There have also been problems finding a suitable midfield to accommodate Fernandes’ attacking prowess, with Ten Hag unable to find balance in the center of the pitch yet.
The Portuguese has sometimes been forced to play on the right flank to give Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen a more central role. Fernandes will hope the international breakthrough has given Ten Hag time to find a solution to United’s midfield crisis.
