Shaquille O’Neal has been retired from the NBA since 2011, but that doesn’t mean he no longer puts effort into the game of basketball.
This week, O’Neal opened a renovated basketball court at a Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles, per TMZ.
O’Neal has opened several of his “Comebaq Court” locations across the country, including in his native Newark, New Jersey, Miami and Atlanta.
“I came here one time and saw that the courthouse needed renovation,” O’Neal told TMZ. ‘I asked about the renovation. They said ‘yes’ and this is the result.’
“If we can help one, if we can help 100, we can help them all,” O’Neal added.

O’Neal opened his latest ‘Comebaq Court’ in Los Angeles this week after eight years as a Laker
O’Neal’s ‘Comebaq Court’ initiative is part of the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation. The goal of the initiative is to provide children in the United States with better playing surfaces of various types.
O’Neal played 19 years in the NBA, spending 1996-2004 with the Los Angeles Lakers, his longest tenure with any franchise.
During his time as a Laker, O’Neal won three NBA championships, all alongside the late Kobe Bryant from 2000-2002.
While O’Neal gets plenty of thanks for his work in the community, the 7-foot-1 behemoth is quick to thank others.
“Those advisors, the ones who volunteer every day, should really get most of the credit,” O’Neal said.
“If you need computers, you need laptops, fresh paint, you call Uncle Shaq,” O’Neal added.
