The January launch date of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new tech-inspired golf competition could be postponed after the venue’s roof collapsed this week.
A new, custom-built arena is being built for the league in Florida, but the roof collapsed this week after a power outage.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed and as such, the PGA Tour and The Golf League themselves have been non-committal on whether the planned January 9 launch date will remain in place.
A CNBC statement Friday from TGL and the PGA Tour said, “We are still assessing the damage and determining the impact on our timelines.”
At the time of the collapse on Tuesday, a TGL source was quoted by Reuters: “At this time, while we are assessing the damage, it is too early to determine the impact on our timelines.”

But any delay would be a blow to McIlroy and Woods, who came up with the idea as part of the response to the rise of LIV Golf.
A slew of star players on the PGA Tour have signed up to compete as a team, but recently Masters champion John Rahm withdrew after being unable to make the required time commitments.
It led to speculation that Rahm would transfer to LIV. The Spaniard said in a statement: While I still think it is a great opportunity, it would require a level of commitment at this time that I cannot provide.”
Big winners like Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Keegan Bradley and Shane Lowry are all lined up to compete in the TGL.
Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Atlanta all have franchises representing these areas, while Woods himself created the sixth team for Jupiter, Florida.
