It was Dex’s girlfriend who raised the alarm around 10 p.m. and called the emergency services.

SNL alumnus Dana and his wife Paula released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram on Thursday, saying, “Last night we experienced a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.

The couple continued, “Most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.’

Dex had a career background in entertainment and carved out his niche in comedy, following in the footsteps of father Dana.

Dana has multiple accolades to his name — most notably five consecutive Primetime Emmy awards for SNL — but his late son would certainly inherit his talents.

He has also appeared in a number of projects, including the 2016 short film Carpool Pandering; Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser from 2016.

He also appeared in the 2014 miniseries Beyond the Comics; and the 2013 miniseries The Funster, according to iMDb.
