After the game, 14-cap international Vinicius reveled in his side’s victory and posted lyrics to a song that Atletico mocked online.

Real Madrid’s full chant is: ‘Los años of pasando, Y todo sigue igual, Perdiendo las finals, Contra nuestro Real, No importa lo que digan, Nunca lo olvidarán, Lloraron and Lisboa, Lloraron and Milan, Real Madrid, dale ! ‘

That translates into English as: ‘The years pass, and everything remains the same, losing the final, against our Real, whatever they say, they will never forget, they cried in Lisbon, they cried in Milan.’

Agent Pedro Bravo had caused huge controversy by accusing Vinicius of “playing the monkey” on Spanish TV for his dances to celebrate his goals. Bravo has since apologized for his comments on Twitter.

His tweet on Friday read: “I want to clarify that the expression ‘playing the monkey’ that I misused to qualify Vinicius’ goal celebration dance was done metaphorically (“doing stupid things”). Since it was not my intention to offend anyone, I offer my sincere apologies. Sorry!’

On the same day, Vinicius said in a statement: “Weeks ago, some people started criticizing my dancing. But the dancing isn’t just mine.

‘They belong to Ronaldinho, Neymar, [Lucas] paqueta, [Antoine] Griezmann, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha… Brazilian funk and samba dancers, Latin reggaeton singers, black Americans. They are dances to celebrate the cultural diversity of the world.

“They say happiness bothers you. The happiness of a black Brazilian who is successful in Europe is much more disturbing. But my will to win, my smile and the sparkle in my eye are much bigger than that.’

Despite Atletico captain Koke adding fuel to the fire by saying Vinicius would be dancing at the Wanda Metropolitano, the 22-year-old danced with compatriot Rodrygo after the latter gave Real the lead in the first half.

Fede Valverde doubled the advantage before halftime, and although Atletico substitute Mario Hermoso – who was later sent off – pulled one, Carlo Ancelotti’s side held on to win and beat Barcelona at the top of the table.

Brazilian legend Pele and Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar are among those sending online messages of support to Vinicius.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele tweeted: “Football is joy. It’s a dance. It’s a real party. While racism still exists, we won’t let that stop us from smiling.’

Neymar wrote: ‘Dribbling, dance and be yourself! Happy as you are. Go for it my boy, next goal we dance.
