Gwyneth Paltrow’s iconic $1 ski trial is turned into a comedy musical… with a male actor scooping role as the ‘Goop-founding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously-uncoupling’ star

Gwyneth Paltrow’s iconic $1 ski trial has been turned into a comedy musical due out at the end of this year.

The 50-year-old actress was charged this year after retired optometrist Terry Sanderson filed a lawsuit against her for recklessly bumping into him at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort in February 2016.

Gwyneth was awarded a symbolic $1 at the end of the trial, after jurors ruled that Terry’s claims were false and that he was 100% at fault for the collision.

Gwyneth Goes Skiing, a comedy musical based on the trial, opens at the Pleasance Theater in North London on December 13 and runs until December 23, starring Swedish male actor Linus Karp.

The show’s description reads: ‘She is the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously uncoupling Hollywood superstar…’

“He’s a retired optometrist from Utah. In 2016 they went skiing. On the slopes of Deer Valley, their worlds collided, and so did they – literally. Ouch…

‘Seven years later, in 2023, they went to court. Double ouch. This is their story. Kind of. Not really. But it’s also Christmas.’

The show, created by Awkward Productions, will star Linus, who previously played Princess Diana, as Gwyneth and Joseph Martin as Terry.

The show will also feature original music from Leland of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

After her legal victory, her lawyer read a statement from the actress outside the courthouse. Stephen Owens, representing the actress, said: “We are pleased with the outcome and appreciate the judge and jury’s consideration.

“I am pleased with the outcome and appreciate all the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”

Last month, Gwyneth opened up about how “weird” it was to win the ski trial. She described this during an interview with People how she was driven by a deep desire to do the ‘right’ thing and defend herself.

She said, “I don’t know if I’ve even processed it. It was something I felt like I survived. Sometimes it takes a long time in my life to look back, process something and understand something…

“I was in that situation and it was very important for me to go there and try to do the right thing.”

The Shakespeare In Love actress also said her priority was to remain ‘calm’ as she gave evidence and endured the highly watched trial: ‘I didn’t want to create any more attention. I wanted it to be about getting the truth out.”

Detailing the extreme of the scenario, she said, “It was an intense experience. I kept telling myself, in life, if you believe in God or the universe or whatever, I believe we are always exactly where we need to be…

‘And we don’t have to understand it. I really believe in fighting for what’s right.’
