19 injured as Vaishali Superfast Express train coach catches fire in UP
A fire broke out in a passenger train coach on Thursday morning, just hours after a fire on an express train injured 19 people in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.
“Some people have been taken to a hospital,” said Etawah Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjai Kumar, adding that more details are awaited.
It was previously reported that eight people were injured.
The fire was reported around 2.40 am on Thursday when the Delhi-Saharasa Vaishali Express was passing through an area under Friends Colony police station, he said.
“A fire broke out in the carriage next to the pantry, injuring 19 people. Of the 19, 11 suffered from respiratory problems and have been referred elsewhere,” an official said.
Fire engines were quickly rushed to the scene and the fire in the train’s S-6 car was extinguished, police said.
A fire broke out on the New Delhi-Darbhanga Special Express train around 5.30 pm on Wednesday, damaging three coaches and injuring eight passengers, according to officials.
The cause of the fires has yet to be determined, police said.
