Project star abruptly quits Ten’s struggling panel show: ‘A giant is leaving us tonight’

Another Project star has left the Ten Network’s struggling panel show.

Co-hosts Waleed Aly and Sarah Harris made the surprising announcement during Wednesday night’s show.

“Every now and then there are just giants from where you work,” Aly began as a somber Harris sat next to him.

“And one of them is leaving us tonight,” he continued, before hinting that the departing star would be comedian Sam Taunton.

“Sam, it was great,” Waleed joked, causing Taunton to look stunned.

However, Waleed then clarified that the star who would be leaving was one of the panel show’s founders, Sarah Ashley.

“She’s been here since the very beginning,” the host explained. “And when I say that (I mean) she was here when Ruby Rose was here.”

Rose was an entertainment reporter and panelist on the show in 2009.

Ashley’s resume shows that she has been a supervising producer on the show since its inception in 2009.

The latest loss for the team at The Project comes after a new Ten show hit the chopping block.

The channel’s morning program Studio 10 was officially stopped on Tuesday.

A spokesperson confirmed that the final episode of Studio 10 will air on Friday, December 22, after more than a decade on Australian screens.

And many viewers posted their thoughts on social media, complaining that The Project was cut out of place.

Through messages on X, formerly known as Twitter, dozens of viewers pointed out that the current affairs series is also having difficulty in the viewing figures.

‘I’m actually surprised it took this long. “I still don’t understand why The Project lasted so long and wasn’t canceled first, given the low ratings month after month,” someone wrote online.

‘The Project’s ratings are just as bad, but they won’t be canceled? Says it all about woke 10,” said another.

“The project should be stopped first,” said another, and someone else agreed, “hopefully the project will be next.”

Another wrote: “There’s still time for Channel 10 to ax The Project,” while another said: “Are you sure they didn’t mean The Project?”

“I’d rather scrap The Project,” someone else posted, while someone else wrote, “The Project is next.”

Others stood up for the show, with one posting: ‘That’s pretty harsh on those who enjoy watching The Project.

‘There’s some good interviews on there. But it is not mandatory to watch it.’

A spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the final episode of Studio 10 will air on Friday, December 22, after more than a decade on Australian screens.

Hosts Angela Bishop, Narelda Jacobs and Tristan MacManus, as well as special roving reporter Daniel Doody, will remain with the network and be deployed in various roles.

Bishop and McManus admitted in an emotional Instagram video that it had been a “tough day” after being told of the news over lunch on Tuesday.

“It’s a tough day for the entire Studio 10 family as we have loved bringing you the show for the past decade,” Bishop said.

“We are all very proud to be part of it. To wrap up, I’m going to squeeze out a quote: “Don’t cry because it’s over; laugh because it happened.’

Meanwhile, another network spokesperson thanked the show’s hosts, past and present, staff and viewers for their support of the program.
