Marvel is accused of ‘LYING’ after claiming that new film The Marvels is ‘the number-one movie in the world’ – despite box-office bomb making just $47 million, the lowest MCU opening of all time

The Marvels debuted this weekend with record low profits at the box office.

The MCU film only made $47 million domestically, which is the lowest franchise opening of all time.

However, Avengers: Endgame earned almost 10 times as much with a whopping $357 million in its opening weekend three and a half years ago.

Despite this, Marvel decided to remain optimistic with its promotions.

‘#TheMarvels have arrived. Don’t miss the #1 movie in the world, now in theaters everywhere,” the franchise wrote on its official X account, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

Fans quickly protested Marvel’s statement, claiming that the film was “definitely not the #1 movie” and that the studio was delusional.

‘Which world? Your own? Because it’s definitely not this one,” one user tweeted.

‘”#1 movie in the world?” I knew my optician appointment was long overdue, but thanks for reminding me,” another joked.

A third tweeted: ‘#1 movie in the world? Does this mean I can sue you for false advertising?’

Others felt that Marvel would not be able to claim the number one spot due to its low box office results.

‘Number 1 film in the world. I thought this was the lowest opening of all the wonder movies,” one user tweeted.

Another wrote: “The #1 movie in the world sets the record for the biggest opening weekend flop for the MCU.”

Fans quickly protested Marvel’s statement, claiming that the film was “definitely not the #1 movie” and that the studio was delusional.

Fans who have already seen the film claimed it was “boring” and “the worst Marvel movie.”

“The movie was boring and did nothing to push the MCU in a good direction. The best part was the post-credits scene with Beast,” said one user.

“You’re kidding, right? I just saw it and it is BY FAR the worst Marvel movie in your history (and I’ve seen them all!). What a pity. I have never been so disappointed,” another tweeted.

Some disputed that The Marvels is not statistically the number one movie. Currently, Barbie is number one, according to Box Office Mojo.

Meanwhile, The Marvels are in 41st place.

‘According to Box Office, Mojo The Marvels is in 41st place. You know you lied and we know you lied. You’re not helping,” one user commented.

Others noted that even if Marvel was referring to films currently in theaters, Five Nights at Freddy’s still has The Marvels beat.

While The Marvels made $47 million domestically, Five Nights at Freddy’s earned $78 million in its opening weekend and now has $127 million in year-to-date revenue.

1. Avengers: Endgame – $357 million

2. Avengers: Infinity War – $257 million

3. The Avengers – $207 million

4. Black Panther – $202 million

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron – $191 million

“Look how they lie. Five Nights at Freddy’s is currently the #1 movie in the world,” wrote another.

“According to Google, the number one movie at the box office is ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ and NOT ‘The Marvels’ LOL,” said a third.

For this reason, moviegoers call Marvel a “liar.”

Technically, Marvel can claim that it was number one based on this weekend’s box office alone.

The Marvels had the most of any movie at the box office this weekend, even though it only took in $47 million, while Five Nights at Freddy’s earned $9 million in its third weekend.

Still, moviegoers believe that claiming the number one spot during a weak box office weekend isn’t necessarily bragging.

‘Number 1 in a weekend when nothing else opened big. Five Nights at Freddy’s has already recouped its budget. This flop will never do that,” one person wrote.

‘Bwahahahaha! The Marvels are flopping right now but hey it’s #1 in the world with no competition…so stupid,” another added.

“I see what you did there. No competition made it quite easy to say that. But where does this fit in the big picture?’ asked a third user.

What could also have contributed to The Marvels’ lackluster box office success are the strikes by Hollywood writers and actors.

Brie Larson and the stars of the other film have been unable to promote The Marvels due to the SAG strike, which ended on November 9.

The Marvels follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), also known as Captain Marvel, after she destroys the Supreme Intelligence.

This leads to her powers being split between Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Lashana Lynch).

The three unite and become The Marvels to take down the Kree’s new leader, Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).
