Megan Rapinoe branded a NARCISSIST by SportsCenter anchor Sage Steele after USWNT star said Achilles injury in her last ever game is proof God doesn’t exist

Megan Rapinoe has been called a narcissist by SportsCenter host Sage Steele for claiming her Achilles injury is proof that God does not exist during the last-ever career game on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old Rapinoe left with an injury just six minutes into Saturday’s match against OL Reign, falling to the ground with no one around after her Achilles tendon ruptured.

It was undoubtedly a cruel way for Rapinoe to end such a distinguished football career, but her comments after the match erased much of the sympathy people had for her.

“I’m not a religious person or anything, and if there was a god, this is proof that it doesn’t exist,” Rapinoe said. “This is damned. It’s just damned. Six minutes later I’m eating my Achilles tendon.”

Steele, formerly of ESPN, saw the clip circulating on X and made her feelings completely clear.

Steele said on X that Rapinoe’s comments were “narcissism at its finest.”

“Narcissism at its finest,” Steele simply wrote in response to the video.

Steele, 50, is open about her faith and says in her biography on X that she is a ‘believer’.

As Rapinoe recovers from her injury and takes stock of her career, she may conclude that she has plenty of blessings to be grateful for.

She retires from football as a two-time World Cup winner with the US and scored 63 goals in 203 games for her country.

She also has an estimated net worth of $6.3 million, according to a Forbes profile ahead of this year’s World Cup.

After Saturday’s game, Rapinoe could at least be forgiven for cursing her luck over her injury.

“The worst possible outcome,” she said. ‘I thank God that I have a very good sense of humor. But it’s clearly devastating to come out so early in the finals.

‘That’s life, it’s part of the game. I felt really good before the race, didn’t feel tight or have any calf problems or anything. You don’t always get the perfect ending.

“I feel so lucky and so grateful to have played as long as I have and to have played with the incredible players I’ve played with.

“With every kind of new cycle I’ve come into, I’ve gotten close to certain players, built relationships and played with some of the very best players in the world.

‘I’m looking forward to my retirement. I’m retiring from the field, but you’ll definitely see me out there a lot.”
