But viewers were quick to defend the squirrel, jokingly noting that she was mean to the squirrel.

One user wrote: ‘Why are you roasting the squirrel like that?’ while another wrote: ‘Why are you so mean to the squirrel?’

Other users started speculating why the squirrel was so excited with one text: “First of all he might have been having a rough time lately and is eating his feelings,” to which Zak responded saying: “Sounds just like me hahaha”

Another user theorized that he was preparing for “three winters.”

Shortly after the video went viral, Zak shared more footage of the same squirrel.

It showed the squirrel looking straight into Zak’s camera for a few seconds before quickly turning to the side to get a better look at its body and fluffy tail.

Squirrels are known to gain weight throughout the year depending on what stage of their reproductive cycle and life cycle they are in.

These small animals do not hibernate, so in the cold season they live on the supplies of nuts prepared in advance and regularly go in search of food.

When temperatures drop below freezing, they have a nice layer of fat to keep them warm and provide energy.
