Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s poor reception shouldn’t surprise anyone
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 finally releases today (November 10), but unfortunately there isn’t as much excitement about this next installment.
Lots of reviews for it Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 the ones that have already come out aren’t the most flattering. Our first impressions of Modern Warfare 3‘s campaign was cautiously optimistic, pointing out that the new focus on Open Combat Missions (OCMs) means there’s greater replayability.
Apart from this, there have been several other reviews that took a more negative stance. GameSpot gave it a rating of five out of 10, while IGN said the campaign “feels hastily put together.” However, it remains to be seen how well Modern Warfare 3 holds up compared to previous titles in this iconic franchise.
Many point to the development process as a reason why the campaign failed for so many. Bloomberg claims that Modern Warfare 3 was made in less than a year and a half, according to a source who could not be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly. This short schedule would have proven stressful for the developers.
Bloomberg also stated that some of Sledgehammer’s staff had to work overtime late into the night or on weekends to complete the project. While an Activision spokesperson denied that Modern Warfare 3 was initially intended as an expansion, but Bloomberg added that Sledgehammer studio head Aaron Halon suggested there was a possibility of developers being confused about this, as it is “a new type of direct sequel” to the previous game.
Production is now all said and done, so all that’s left for players to do is decide if this next title will hold up. You can buy Modern Warfare 3 now on Xbox Series X, PS5, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
