A Kentucky mother has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder after shooting her two children.

Tiffanie Lucas, 32, allegedly shot her children, ages 6 and 9, in their Shepherdsville home Wednesday morning.

Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office said at 11:07 a.m. they received reports of a shooting with injuries at the home.

A neighbor, sensing something was wrong, entered the house and found the children in a bedroom covered in blood and a gun on the bed, reported WLK.

When police arrived, both children were transported 30 minutes away to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville with gunshot wounds.

The children underwent surgery and at 2.50pm police said the six- and nine-year-olds had died from their injuries.

Lucas was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, and booked into the Bullitt County Detention Center at 3:45 p.m.

“The investigation is in its early stages and more information may be released as it becomes available. At this time, it appears that all parties have been notified in connection with this incident and there is no threat to the community,” the sheriff’s office said.

An arraignment hearing for Lucas is scheduled for Thursday morning.

“It’s sad, I mean, what in the world has happened for a mother to shoot her two children like that,” neighbor Steve Steier told the local new station.

“It’s horrible, I mean as a mother I can’t imagine this is the only way,” said neighbor Amanda Mangis.
