Bayern Munich’s top scorer Harry Kane struck twice in seven minutes late in the match to guide his team to a 2-1 win over visiting Galatasaray on Wednesday and secure a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to go.

The England captain, who had scored a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday, headed in Joshua Kimmich’s free-kick in the 80th minute and tapped in his second six minutes later to ensure a place in the top two.

The visitors reduced the deficit in second-half injury time with Cedric Bakambu.

The Bavarians, who hit the post with Kane early in the second half, extended their unbeaten run in Champions League group matches to 38 after winning the last 17 in a row, both competition records.

They are top of Group A with twelve points and are assured of a place in the top two with two games to go.
