Overwatch 2’s high skin prices are here to stay as executive producer says it’s ‘sustainable’
Overwatch 2‘s executive producer, Jared Neuss, assured fans that the current skin and bundle model is here to stay, indicating that it is a “sustainable” practice for Blizzard to continue.
During Blizzcon 2023, TRG was able to talk to Jared Neuss about all kinds of things Overwatch 2, whether this is the new LeSserafim collaboration or the shift towards expensive skins and bundles.
“Over the past year we’ve made a lot of changes to the way we monetize the game and the way we release skins and other content,” Neuss said. “I think it’s sustainable. I mean, there’s a lot of games that do the exact same thing.”
Overwatch 2 has undergone a lot of changes since the sequel was first introduced a year ago, but one of the most infamous is the update store page and all the new and expensive bundles found within it.
Initially, many players were shocked when they found out how much money was needed to even buy the old one Overwatch hides; you’d have to play Overwatch 2 for 327 years to get this for free or pay $10,000. Since then, the price of new skins only seems to increase.
The latest bundle found in the Overwatch 2 store is the collaboration with LeSserafim K-pop. This includes five new skins, items and victory poses for Brigitte, Tracer, Kiriko, D.Va and Sombra. Players can purchase these skins individually for 2,500 coins or $25/£21/ AUD$39, or they can purchase the five-skin bundle for 6,800 coins, which is $67/£58/ AUD$104. This is a nice price to pay for a few new skins and some items.
Yet it seems that this will be the future Overwatch 2with prizes like this happening regularly for all kinds of skins, not just collabs.
