Lewis Hamilton has revealed he has given up alcohol as he looks for an ‘extra percent’ to boost his fortunes in Formula 1.
The seven-time world champion revealed this in an interview with Fashion that he has not drunk alcohol in the past four months.
Hamilton made this claim when he launched non-alcoholic tequila brand Almave, in collaboration with Casa Lumbre master distiller Ivan Saldana.
The 38-year-old admitted that drinking alcohol affected him as he continues to perform at the top of his sport.
“I’ll be bothered for a few days, sometimes it’ll be three or four days,” Hamilton said.
Lewis Hamilton revealed he has stopped drinking alcohol because he is looking for an ‘extra percent’
Hamilton made the revelation as the star launched his own non-alcoholic drinks brand
‘I’ve always been looking for: how do you get that one percent extra?
‘As an athlete you are always working on that.
‘I don’t know if I’ll drink again.
‘Since I stopped drinking I feel so much better, so much clearer. I sleep better, I wake up in the morning and can still get up at 5am’
At the launch of his non-alcoholic tequila brand, Hamilton insisted he was looking for an option to ensure he remained ‘clear of mind’.
Hamilton has claimed that his brand will “honor the soul of tequila” by adhering to its traditions.
‘I’ve always loved a good tequila, but on days or nights when I needed a clear mind – the night before a race or while hanging out with friends – I couldn’t find an authentic non-alcoholic option that lived up to the premium quality and experience with my favorite full-proof tequilas,” Hamilton said on Almave’s website.
‘And so began a relentless pursuit to create a non-alcoholic drink that makes no compromises on authenticity or quality.’
