Jenna Bush Hager and twin brother Barbara get into an argument on the Today show while reminiscing about a boy they both had a crush on in high school

Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush got into a sisterly bickering over a boy they both liked on the Today show in seventh grade β€” after the latter claimed he was interested in her first.

The 41-year-old twins celebrated the release of their new children’s book, Love Comes First, when Barbara joined Jenna and her cohost Hoda Kotb on Tuesday for a special sister edition of their advice segment Girl Code.

When Jenna read one of the questions out loud, she had no idea it would spark a debate about the boy she dated in high school.

‘My sister told me she is in love with a man. He just asked me out. What shall I do?’ she read from the teleprompter.

Hoda, 59, wanted to know if anything like this had ever happened to them, but Jenna insisted the viewers’ questions had nothing to do with her and her sister.

“We didn’t have the same taste,” Jenna said. “It’s just that I think we both liked the same person equally in seventh grade.”

“Well, he liked me first,” Barbara said bluntly. “And then you liked him.”

β€œHe gave her a frog ring in Central Park,” she added.

“I don’t think he liked you at first,” Jenna replied.

“Yes, he did,” Barbara argued. β€œHe told me I was cute, and when a boy in seventh grade tells you you’re cute….”

“But why didn’t he ask you out?” Jenna intervened. “He asked me out.”

“Because he liked you then,” Barbara clarified.

The awkward moment passed as quickly as it came, and soon the sisters were laughing together again.

Earlier in the segment, Jenna and Barbara answered a question from a woman who was traveling with her early riser sister and wanted to sleep in.

When Hoda asked Barbara if she was someone who liked to wake up early on vacation, she admitted that she was the exact opposite.

‘I set the alarm three minutes before I have to be somewhere. β€œI want to stay under the covers for as long as physically possible,” she said.

She explained that three minutes gives her enough time to brush her teeth, make coffee and head out for her morning walk.

β€œBarbara loves to sleep so much,” Jenna said.

β€œI like it to be horizontal,” Barbara agreed.

The activist made Hoda laugh when she said she “tries to get eight hours of sleep a night,” but her “dream would be thirteen hours.”

The conversation reminded Jenna of how she recently told her father, former President George W. Bush, that his obsession with punctuality prepared her for Hoda, who also likes to be early for everything.

The twins said their father constantly made them angry about being late – “even though we were never late.”

‘Even when we were (almost) 42 years old, when we had an early flight, he said, “Girls, what time do you all wake up?” Like seven times. “What time are you all going?” Jenna reminded.

Barbara explained that she “sees no reason to have extra time at the airport” and arrives just before her flight.

“Dad once texted my husband (Craig Coyne) and said, ‘Barbara has to be ready at 6:30,’ and my husband said, ‘I’ll do my best.’ My father replied, β€œThat’s not good enough,” she said.

Jenna and Barbara had just finished their whirlwind book tour after traveling to their home state of Texas without their spouses or children.

The sisters had a special dinner with just their parents for the first time in “ten years” as they celebrated their mother Laura Bush’s birthday.

The former first lady turned 77 on Saturday, the day before her 46th wedding anniversary.

Jenna shared a photo of herself and Barbara beaming as they sat across from their mom and dad, as well as a photo of their parents sitting next to each other.

‘Happy birthday to our dear mother! (We are) so happy that the four of us can spend the night! We love you so much! @laurawbush AND the happiest 46 years for our parents. I love you both!’ she wrote in the caption.

Jenna recounted the memorable moment on the Today show on Monday while chatting with Hoda about their trip to Texas, saying they made five stops in just three days.

“The four of us went out to dinner and what we realized is that I don’t think the four of us have been together in 20 years,” she explained.

“That’s an exaggeration,” she corrected herself. “But let’s say a decade, because I’ve had a husband for a long time, we’ve had children for ten years, Barbara has boyfriends and husbands, and so on and so forth.”

Hoda immediately laughed and wanted to know what she meant by “et cetera et cetera,” and Jenna clarified that Barbara had a few boyfriends before she married her husband.

Barbara and Craig have a daughter, Cora Georgia, who turned two on September 27.

Meanwhile, Jenna and her husband of 15 years, Henry Hager, are parents to three children: Mila, ten, Poppy, eight, and Hal, four.

“There was something really special about it, just being the four of us,” the former first daughter said of their dinner.

“We had a great time and then we all went to bed,” she added. ‘My father was watching a football match and my mother was opening her presents. And then we went to bed at 8:45 am. Anyway, it was so much fun.”
