Marvel’s latest trailer features a surprise appearance from Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, just days before the superhero sequel hits theaters

Just days before the superhero sequel The Marvels hits theaters, Marvel Studios has released a final trailer, which features quite a surprise: Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.

Thompson, 40, made her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut as Valkyrie in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, and reprized that role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

She wasn’t previously confirmed to appear in The Marvels – in theaters on November 10 – although this new trailer shows Valkyrie giving some sage advice to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel: ‘You can stand tall without being alone to stand.’

The film – a sequel to Marvel’s 2019 billion-dollar blockbuster Captain Marvel – brings back Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, along with Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau from the 2021 TV series WandaVision and TV’s Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan 2022 series Ms. Marvel.

They must all work together and use their considerable powers to defeat a new Thanos-like threat: Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).

The trailer opens with flashback shots of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) says, “Heroes, it’s an old-fashioned idea.”

“But the world could still use them,” Fury adds, as we see flashback footage of a two-eyed Nick Fury with Carol, while we see a shot of both Iron Man and Captain America saying, “Whatever it takes.”

Carol adds, “We destroyed Thanos, but it’s not over yet,” as we see a brief flashback of Thanos saying, “My work is inevitable.” There will always be more to top it off,” as it cuts to a shot of the evil Dar-Benn.

“This is just the beginning,” Dar-Benn tells her followers as she activates a purple beam that creates a rift between our universe and many others.

“She blew a hole in space! Another reality is intruding on ours,” Monica explains, as Carol flies off into space.

“What are you willing to do?” Nick asks Carol, who replies, “I’m invincible,” even though she’s seen struggling with Dar-Benn, who says, “Your powers only make me stronger.”

Fury adds, “She can’t be matched, she can’t be controlled,” as a title card teases, “Be there for the moment when everything changes.”

Fury is heard saying, “I ask for one last fight,” while Dar-Benn says, “You cannot protect your people,” while Valkyrie tells Carol, “You can stand without standing alone.”

Nick Fury says, “They’re here,” as the title card drops before the final shot, where Kamala falls from the sky and Nick tells Monica to fly with her powers.

While Monica is skittish, Nick simply shouts “Black Girl Magic,” and Monica flies into the air as the trailer comes to a close.

Valkyrie’s appearance may lend more credence to the swirling rumors that Marvel may be leading an A-Force movie.

The A-Force in Marvel Comics was an all-female team of Avengers that debuted in 2015 as part of Marvel’s Secret Wars crossover event.
