Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has refused to rule out a future move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 24-year-old, who grew up in Paris, was questioned by the French media about his future following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Luton on Sunday.

Konate joined Liverpool in the summer of 2021 for £36 million and has since made 64 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

French television channel Canal Plus, according to Goal, Konate asked on Sunday if he had ever imagined a PSG shirt.

He replied, “If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you ask, is that one of my goals? Not at all.’

The Frenchman continued: ‘PSG has made sure to recruit players who understand each other well and play together for the French national team.

‘Even for the people and the Parisian fans, it makes them happy. It is what they have been waiting for for years, with players from Paris or at least French players in the team.’

PSG has a strong French core, consisting of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembélé and Lucas Hernandez, all of whom play alongside Konate at international level.

Konate has secured a starting spot at Liverpool and regularly starts ahead of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of their defence.

He has also become an integral part of the France team under Didier Deschamps, regularly selected alongside his former RB Leipzig teammate Dayot Upamecano.

Konate has a long-term contract at Anfield until the summer of 2026.

After improving their forward and midfield positions in recent transfer windows, Liverpool are expected to turn their attention to bringing in defensive signings.

Konate is Liverpool’s youngest centre-back, with both Van Dijk and Matip now 32, and Gomez 26.

Liverpool salvaged a draw against Luton thanks to Luis Diaz’s stoppage-time equalizer after returning to the side while his father remains held by kidnappers in Colombia.
