Overwatch 2’s Le Sserafim collaboration was a love letter to the fans
Overwatch 2‘s recent collaborations with anime One punch man and Kpop group Le Sserafim were a way for the developers to share their love for something with fans, according to the game’s executive producer.
In conversation with TRG at Blizzcon 2023, Overwatch 2‘s executive producer Jared Neuss says the goal of the collaborations wasn’t to bring more people to Blizzard’s shooter, but to share something Overwatch 2 developers were passionate about the game’s audience.
“The funny thing is, I haven’t really thought about these collaborations in terms of expanding the audience,” Neuss said, adding, “I guess that’s kind of the case for people who have a love for the thing we work with.”
“I really look at it as kind of a love letter from the team to our players about these things that they were passionate about, right?” he adds. “Like it, One punch man was something that the team absolutely loved, they were so excited to release it and get in front of the players. With Le Sserafim we have a ton of Kpop fans and this is something they really wanted to bring to the world.
“For me, it’s less about how do we bring in an audience that loves this thing and more about, ‘how do we express our love for something, knowing that our love is reflected by many of our players.’”
The future ahead OverwatchNeuss’ collaborations will be about crossing traits and things the team loves, with the hope that many players will be able to share in that enthusiasm.
“I know a lot of the things we have lined up will be exciting for people,” he adds.
Following these crossovers, Neuss says he is personally excited about the idea of crossing over with other video game worlds.
“My passion really lies in the different worlds that teams create and that is why I would like us to do game collaborations in the future,” says Neuss.
Overwatch 2 was developed by Blizzard Interactive, part of Activision-Blizzard King, the company was acquired by Microsoft in October this year. in addition to their own titles such as Weapons of war And HaloMicrosoft also owns Bethesda, which is behind games like Fallout, Fate And Wolfenstein.
“It would be super exciting for me to dive into worlds that we love and that our players love, and you know we can obviously do that with other Blizzard titles as well, but there are a lot of games outside of Blizzard that I love would like to play. see us working together at some point.”
