Derrick Lewis suffered a unanimous defeat to Jailton Almeida in the main event of UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday night.
The 38-year-old was looking for a back-to-back win in the UFC heavyweight division after scoring a TKO victory over Marcos Rogério de Lima in his last fight.
However, things did not go to plan for the American, who suffered a fourth loss in his last five UFC fights after a dominant wrestle from Almeida.
The Brazilian controlled most of the fight on the ground, with his control time of 21:10 setting a new UFC heavyweight record for a single fight.
Lewis had no answer to his counterparts’ grappling and grappling skills, leading the judges to score the fight unanimously in Almeida’s favor, 50-44 50-44 50-45.

After the fight, Almeida called up one of the UFC’s biggest names in an effort to make a mouthwatering matchup next year.
‘I’m going to shout a name here. I want Ciryl Gane. I will fight in Paris anytime,” Almeida said CombatSportsUK.
Almeida, 32, has a professional MMA record of 22-2 and is undefeated in his six UFC appearances to date.
The disappointing result comes days after Lewis was arrested for allegedly driving 130mph in an 50mph zone just days before he headlined the event in Sau Paulo.
According to multiple reports, the 38-year-old was pulled over while driving a red Lamborghini in his hometown of Houston.
Lewis allegedly passed several officers as he weaved through traffic and made dangerous lane changes, according to police.
He has been charged with reckless driving and a misdemeanor, and was given a $100 personal recognizance bond before being released.
Lewis is due back in court on December 27 in Harris County, Texas.
