Insane price of ham and cheese croissant at Melbourne cafe outrages Aussies
A photo of a ham and cheese croissant has left Australians furious over its ‘absolutely outrageous’ price tag.
The disappointed customer snapped a photo of the breakfast item at a Melbourne cafe and shared it on social media platform X on Saturday.
The post shows a ham and cheese croissant priced at a whopping $14.
‘Is this right?’ read the caption.
Social media users were furious, with many accusing the cafe of price gouging and branding it ‘absolutely outrageous’.

‘Not normal, I paid $10.90 yesterday for a ham and cheese croissant with strong coffee. This place is a mess,” one person wrote.
‘Even if they use quality croissants and quality free-range ham, it is very expensive. It should be about $10,” said another.
Others claimed the price made breakfast completely unaffordable and was a sign of Australia’s ever-rising inflation.
“This used to be my weekend staple, but I stopped using it because everyone is charging $10+. There is no justification for charging that much for $3 worth of food,” one person wrote.
“I couldn’t afford to eat in cafes when it was half price so I don’t care either way,” someone else commented.
“Wow this is indeed what I’m talking about, outrageous if you can’t afford breakfast,” chimed in a third.
A fourth joked: ‘I wouldn’t pay that much at a Macquarie Bank owned airport, let alone somewhere where I have a choice. I don’t care if the chef is French or if the pig went to Harvard before ethically donating his leg.”
The price for a ham and cheese croissant in Australia ranges between $8 and $12 depending on the cafe.
